Sanjo Conference Hall, Hongo

The aim of the conference is to discuss a new trend in cell biology, both from theoretical and experimental sides.
Nowadays there is a strong trend in biology to collect all complicated molecular processes and genomic information. However, introduction of some concepts or methods to understand life as a "system" is strongly requested. Here we discuss efforts to unveil underlying universal logic in a biological system, especially viewed as dynamic circulation process between whole and parts, or in other words, as a system whose elements change their character dynamically in relationship with the total system. In the workshop, we discuss several aspects in cell biology from such viewpoint. The following aspects are emphasized:
- Theoretical and experimental study of dynamic process in cell biology, consisting of many elements with dynamic interference between global and local processes.
- Developmental, not stationary, process in a life system.
- Constructive approach on cell biology, both from experimental and theoretical sides. With the construction, universal logic (such as robustness or irreversibility) that a life system should inevitably satisfy is pursued.
We do not focus into analysis or reproduction of the existing organisms or processes; rather we set up a life-system from our side to extract the logic of life.
